Grammarly is one of the most famous grammar and spelling checker that exists on the market.

The software exists on many platforms. Nevertheless, I wanted to dig deeper into what I think will be useful to many of you: how to get Grammarly for word.
Why Get Grammarly For Word?
Microsoft Word is the most popular editor on the planet.
By default, the spell checker included in Microsoft Word verifies only the typos. It does not check for the writer’s tone nor intent. It also misses some common mistakes as it is more of a spell checker that a grammar one.
This comparison shows very well why Grammarly goes further than the word spellchecker.

If you want to enhance the grammar capabilities of Word, the first thing to do is to download Grammarly at this address.
Then, follow the installation instructions. Since the plugin was created for the Microsoft Office suite and not exclusively for Words, you will also have the choice to also install it for Outlook.
Enable Grammarly In Word
Once the installation is complete, restart Microsoft Word if it was open. Now, on the rightmost part of the toolbar, a button named “Open Grammarly” must have appeared.
By clicking on it and proceeding through the steps appearing on the sidebar, you will then be able to see new features specific to Grammarly on the toolbar as well as a new zone for suggestions in the sidebar.
Use Grammarly Features
To perform my tests, I used the same demo document furnished by Grammarly as in my software review. At the right of the document, detected issues stack up.
Grammarly For Word 365
The different colours represent different types of errors:
- Correctness
- Clarity
- Engagement
- Delivery
Similarly to the web Grammarly application, those errors can be adjusted based on the goals you set to yourself.

You can adjust them by clicking on this button:
This will allow you to choose the type of audience your document is destined to be read by, the level of formality as well as the domain (academic, business, …) for premium users.
On top of the error checks, the premium version can detect plagiarism. Indicating for each error the website it is similar to as well as the percentage of similarity.
Finally, you can ask an expert to proofread the document. Be careful when using this feature as extra costs will be requested, even as a premium user.
Use Grammarly For Outlook
If you selected the option to add Grammarly to Microsoft Outlook as stated in the previous section of this article, then you can proceed with the activation.
Grammarly For Word Document
Is it the same as for Word even though the design is slightly different. A button will appear in the top toolbar proposing to “Reply with Grammarly”.
By clicking on this button, or by simply creating a new email, you will notice a new section called Grammarly in the email composing window. On this section, a click on the top-left button “Open Grammarly” will make its features available.
Grammarly For Office
As you saw in this article, Grammarly has two plugins for Word and Outlook. At the moment, it is not available for the rest of the Office suite.
Even if nothing is planned yet, it would make sense for the grammar checker to also be deployed for every office programs as they really are popular.
In the meantime, you could also copy and paste your text from whichever software you are using into the web application of Grammarly to benefit from error verification.
